Henry Cooper

Computer science senior at Franciscan University. I build web apps and APIs, and I run my own Linux server on the side.

ScriptOS

The problem

The USCCB coordinated its work through email chains, with files scattered across different storage services.

What I built

My capstone team is building ScriptOS, one Ruby on Rails workflow app that replaces both. I’ve built security patches, database models, and role-based authorization, so each person can only see and do what their role allows.

II. Self-hosted for 10 people

Home Lab

The problem

Ten people needed a private VPN, shared file storage, and a game server they could count on.

What I built

I run a Linux server that handles all three. I split the 20-device network into 4 VLANs with firewall rules and an IPsec VPN, and wrote an API that reports live stats from the game server.

III. For the Minecraft server on my home lab

MC Server Stats

The problem

Getting live player info out of a vanilla Minecraft server, like who’s online, where they are, and how they’re doing, usually means installing mods or plugins.

What I built

A FastAPI service that talks to the server over RCON, the remote console built into the game, and turns its text replies into JSON. It runs in Docker, reuses one connection for every request, and returns a clear 502 instead of crashing when the game server is down.

About

At Franciscan University of Steubenville I study computer science, with minors in cybersecurity and math. I graduate in May 2027.

Right now my capstone team and I are building ScriptOS, a Rails app for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. I’ve also worked two IT jobs: a support internship at FTI Services and the campus help desk. Between them I’ve closed more than 1,200 tickets, and I saw a lot of software fail for the people using it.

I’m looking for a software engineering role. Outside of class I play volleyball, organize poker nights in my dorm, and coordinate events for my Catholic fraternity on campus.
